The Soundcrash Funk & Soul Weekender returns in 2023, along with a stellar lineup of artists heading to Margate next summer.
Kool & the Gang will be taking to the stage at The Soundcrash Funk & Soul Weekender. Their unique blend of rhythm and blues, disco, jazz and funk has provided a groove-based soundtrack spanning more than half a century. One of the world’s most popular funk and soul bands, they come armed with a catalogue of disco classics including Celebration, Get Down On It, and Jungle Boogie which sound just as good to this day.
New Orleans’ own Grammy Award winning Hot 8 Brass Band also join the bill, serving up hip-hop, jazz and funk alongside Craig Charles, who has hosted the Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show since 2002, the original Reggae selector himself – David Rodigan, 9-piece afro-jazz band Nubiyan Twist turning up the groove, and one of the most respected DJs in the world, Norman Jay. Muva of Earth will be heading to Margate, delivering some of the coolest sounds in alt-jazz, along with former Fun Lovin’ Criminals band member, BBC 6 Music’s own Huey Morgan, northern soul scene pioneer and founder of Acid Jazz – Eddie Piller, and nothing short of an institution in Brit soundsystem culture, Trojan Sound System.
A true celebration of all things funk and soul, during the open-air weekender guests will be able to soak up the sounds from a whole host of unmissable talent both emerging and nothing short of legendary ranging from Funk, Soul, Disco, Reggae, Hip Hop, Jazz and beyond, as well as theme park rides, roller disco, disco yoga, dance classes & more.
